Marc Marquez won the Mandalika Sprint and took the championship lead. His rival, Jorge Martin, fell from first to fourth, a result that reshapes the title fight with five rounds remaining.

Martin drops from front to fourth after pressure error

Tyre-pressure issues and a mistake caused Jorge Martin to drop from first to fourth in the Mandalika Sprint. This was a significant setback for the Aprilia rider, who had been leading the championship by two points coming into the event. The incident allowed Marquez to capitalize and seize the initiative.

Aprilia achieves historic top-four sweep at Mandalika

Despite Martin's stumble, Aprilia completed a historic top-four sweep at Mandalika. The circuit is one of Aprilia's strongest events. The manufacturer put all its bikes in front of Marquez in a strategic move to regain points in the constructor's and rider championships. Aprilia has multiple riders capable of fighting at the front in its chase for a maiden premier-class crown.

Martin reflects on title pressure and Marquez’s edge

Jorge Martin acknowledged the pressure to secure Aprilia’s first MotoGP title. He stated that Marc Marquez is still the stronger rider, despite being close in the championship. Martin admitted he feels a tad short when putting together a full weekend and performing on Sunday, noting that Marquez manages to secure victories he currently misses. He remains focused on hard work, believing the results will come.

Championship gap narrows to four points after Mandalika

The championship gap between Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin is now four points. Marquez also won the Sprint race at the Japanese Grand Prix, while Martin claimed pole position there. The battle is intensifying as the season reaches its climax.

Technical director Fabiano Sterlacchini identified Sepang and Qatar as the two tracks where Aprilia is a bit more concerned. At Sepang last year, no Aprilia riders reached Qualifying 2, with Marco Bezzecchi their best finisher at seventh in the Sprint. Ducati won both Malaysian races, with Francesco Bagnaia taking the Sprint and Alex Marquez the Grand Prix. Jorge Martin has no previous RS-GP experience at Phillip Island, Sepang, or Portimao, and was badly injured during a comeback in Qatar last season. Aprilia believes it is competitive at other tracks and considers Valencia neutral. The team's riders remain free to race for now, but team orders will be implemented after one or two races. The remaining circuits are Phillip Island, Sepang, Lusail, Portimao, and Valencia.
