Gigi Dall'Igna celebrated his 100th grand prix success at the 2026 Japanese Grand Prix. Exactly a year after Marc Marquez clinched the MotoGP title on one of his creations, Dall'Igna's milestone arrived at Motegi. This victory underscored Ducati's sustained dominance under its technical guru.

Building the winning machine

Dall'Igna guided Ducati from a winless drought to dominance. He arrived in 2013 when the team had only 31 grand prix wins to its name. The core MotoGP regulations for engine and chassis had been stable since 2012. His technical team gradually addressed the Desmosedici's weaknesses. They used concessions to their advantage to become a race winner again in 2016.

Once competitive, Ducati reinvented the wheel. It pioneered ride-height devices and sophisticated aerodynamics. The team adapted to yearly rulebook changes, including new Michelin tyres, standardised ECUs, and clampdowns on aero. Dall'Igna was the mastermind behind the highly regarded GP24. He considers the 2015 machine the most important, as it represented a real step forward. The GP15 was the first Desmosedici developed entirely under his leadership and restored Ducati to regular podium contention.

"I think that in the last 10 years, the bike has changed more than in all the other years," Dall'Igna said. Between the GP15 and the 2022 title, Ducati gradually improved and broke new technical ground. All 100 wins have come in just the last 203 races, stretching back to Andrea Iannone's maiden success at the 2016 Austrian Grand Prix.

Riders who delivered the wins

Fourteen riders have contributed to these 100 MotoGP victories. Francesco Bagnaia leads with 31 wins. Marc Márquez has 20 victories, and Andrea Dovizioso has 14. This historic trio accounts for 65 of the century of wins. The remaining 35 wins are shared among eleven other riders.

Bagnaia won the riders' title in 2022. Marquez's 2025 championship marked the fourth consecutive riders' title for Ducati. Customer teams also began winning races regularly and competing for the World Championship during this era.

Sustained excellence in a changing era

Ducati's win rate under Dall'Igna is 49.3%. The team's last victory before its long drought was in 2010, secured by Casey Stoner in Australia. Andrea Iannone ended the nearly six-year wait with a win at the Red Bull Ring in 2016, where Andrea Dovizioso finished second.

Dominance peaked in 2024 when Ducati won 19 out of 20 races. Sixteen victories came with the GP24 and three with the year-old GP23. This period of success rivals other great dynasties. Between 1994 and 1999, Honda won 68 out of 87 races at a strike rate of 78.2%. From 2014 to 2021, Mercedes won 111 out of 163 grands prix in Formula 1.

Dall'Igna guided Ducati to its first manufacturers' title in 2020. The team has been undefeated in that championship since. A new MotoGP era will begin in 2027 with new technical regulations and a change of tyre supplier. For now, the numbers speak for themselves. Ducati's win rate under Dall'Igna is 49.3%.
