The Qatar Grand Prix has been rescheduled from 12 April to 8 November, with MotoGP maintaining the revised date despite ongoing regional instability. Preparations are continuing for the championship to travel to Doha in just under a month, with officials and riders closely monitoring the situation for safety.

Rider Reactions and Travel Plans

Multiple riders have voiced uncertainty about attending the Qatar race, with travel plans contingent on Formula 1's decision and team support. Fabio Quartararo stated he is not concerned about traveling to Qatar and will go if Formula 1 goes. Alex Marquez said he is uncertain if the race will go ahead but has tickets and plans to travel, having planned to stay from Monday to Sunday since the Malaysia event.

Pedro Acosta stated they have no choice and will go if the team buys tickets. The Red Bull KTM rider joked about the risks, saying, "If they drop a bomb, let's hope it doesn't land nearby." Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati emphasized that safety must be carefully considered if conditions aren't right, adding he did not want to express opinions that could get him into trouble.

Safety Monitoring and Contingency Planning

Carlos Ezpeleta, deputy CEO of MotoGP, stated the championship is closely monitoring the situation in the Middle East. He emphasized that the safety and well-being of staff and fans is the number one priority, and they need to work with teams and promoters to ensure safety and have contingency plans. Ezpeleta reiterated in Indonesia that MotoGP is still planning to hold the Qatar event, but will continue to monitor the situation.

The postponement forced the Portuguese and Valencia Grands Prix to be pushed back by a week. Ezpeleta mentioned that even with the flooding in Valencia in 2024, they organised an event in Barcelona in 10 days, highlighting their capacity for contingency planning. A plane parked at Riyadh's airport in Saudi Arabia was reportedly damaged by a missile attack by Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis, an event that led to major flight disruptions across the region.

The Event's Unique Status

The Qatar Grand Prix is one of the most distinctive events on the calendar and the first MotoGP race to be held at night. Francesco Bagnaia described the Qatar event as offering a fantastic weekend and perhaps the most unique on the MotoGP calendar. Riders now await final confirmation on whether the event will proceed as planned in November.
