Ducati has denied that its 2026 MotoGP bike was designed specifically for Marc Marquez. Team manager Davide Tardozzi insisted all factory riders can choose technical solutions that suit them.

Davide Tardozzi rejected suggestions that Marquez has steered the bike's development. "I don't agree at all with those who claim Marc Marquez has steered the bike's development towards himself. It's absolutely not true," he said. Tardozzi stated each factory rider, including Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio, has the opportunity to select their own setups. He described claims of a Marquez-centric bike as mere paddock gossip.

Ducati has the resources to develop the bike for each individual rider. For example, factory rider Francesco Bagnaia uses different fairing bodywork from Marquez. He has also used different swingarm aerodynamics. The bike that works for Marquez is not automatically right for everyone else.

Current Championship Dynamics After Mandalika

Marc Marquez returned from the Mandalika weekend just two points behind championship leader Jorge Martin. With five rounds remaining, Marquez is the only Ducati rider in the top five of the standings. His teammate Francesco Bagnaia has struggled to reproduce his championship-winning form. Fabio di Giannantonio is more than 100 points behind Marquez in sixth place.

Aprilia dominated the Indonesian Grand Prix, locking out the top four positions. Marco Bezzecchi won, followed by Raúl Fernández, Jorge Martin, and Ai Ogura. This was the first time Aprilia achieved a top-four lockout with its RS-GP bike. Ducati general manager Gigi Dall'Igna said he would like to have more than one rider in the title fight.

Tardozzi viewed the Mandalika result as a success for Ducati in terms of the points gap. He acknowledged Aprilia's significant superiority at that circuit. The championship remains very manageable with 185 points still available.

Aprilia’s Rising Challenge and Team Strategy

Aprilia has emerged as a credible challenger in 2026 after a major leap with its RS-GP. Between its factory team and the Trackhouse satellite operation, Aprilia has won seven of the 16 Grands Prix held so far this season. This equals its combined total from the previous three campaigns. The manufacturer has two riders contending for the championship: Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi.

Aprilia has openly acknowledged it could consider asking its other riders, including those at Trackhouse Racing, to help Jorge Martin in his battle against Marquez. Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola said beating Marc Marquez is the most difficult task they could have. He expressed satisfaction at fighting for the title against Marquez and Ducati.

Tardozzi said he would do the same in Aprilia's position, calling such a team order strategy fair and logical. He noted Ducati has historically given its satellite riders everything when they fight against factory riders, maintaining an equal footing without favouritism.

Marquez’s Position and the Title Fight

Marc Marquez, a seven-time MotoGP champion, is Ducati’s leading championship contender. He has won six of the last nine Grands Prix on the Ducati factory bike. Ducati has dominated MotoGP for the last four seasons but now faces a stiff challenge from Aprilia. The manufacturers are level on points heading into the Indonesian GP.

Tardozzi stressed the importance of the upcoming races. The team will take the championship fight race by race. The next event is the Indonesian Grand Prix at the Mandalika circuit, where Ducati aims to close the performance gap on Aprilia and challenge Jorge Martin's narrow lead.
