MotoGP Aragon: Bezzecchi's Pole, Martin's

Marco Bezzecchi secured pole position and a podium finish in Saturday's MotoGP Sprint race at the MotorLand Aragon circuit. The day was physically demanding for the rider, who expressed some regret over an early brake at the first corner.

Jorge Martin described his Sprint as better than expected after struggling with front-end feel throughout practice. He managed to close on the leaders early in the race, a positive sign after being far from their pace on Friday.

Team Perspectives on Saturday's Action

Fabiano Sterlacchini, the Technical Director for Bezzecchi's team, called the day "rather positive." He noted the team took pole and set an all-time lap record on a track not suited to their bike's characteristics. He acknowledged work remains to match the pace of the more competitive riders, specifically naming the Márquez brothers.

The Honda HRC team entered Saturday with optimism after overnight analysis. Both Luca Marini and Joan Mir improved from Friday's practice sessions, but qualifying proved difficult.

Joan Mir narrowly missed transferring from Q1, his lap hampered by a tricky third sector. His Sprint race was complicated by contact with Enea Bastianini at Turn 3 on the opening lap, which sent him off track. Mir recovered to finish 16th, focusing on data collection for Sunday. "I was able to improve my confidence a lot on the bike compared to Friday," Mir stated.

Luca Marini's day ended early with a heavy crash between turns five and six on the Sprint's first lap. He reported "quite some pain" but no major injuries and will rest before Sunday's Grand Prix. He had been just three tenths from the top in a tightly packed Q1 session.

Riders Assess Sprint Race Challenges

Enea Bastianini recounted a chaotic first lap involving contact with Franco Morbidelli and the crash of Luca Marini just behind him. He noted his front tyre dropped in the middle of the race, costing him positions, and suggested the medium front compound was too soft for his bike at Aragon.

Pol Espargaró had an eventful race, describing a bad start, avoiding Marini's crash, and then a scare when Fabio Quartararo's engine blew up directly in front of him on the back straight. "I didn't know if I was in a corner or on the straight," Espargaró said. He finished the race alone, estimating that without the issues he would have been closer to his teammates.

Nicolas Goyon, Team Manager for Bastianini and Espargaró, said the team improved the bike but both riders still struggled to make it turn. He noted Bastianini's fight with Pecco Bagnaia for eleventh showed promise, while Espargaró had made a "clear step" from the previous round at Silverstone. Goyon expressed hope both could fight for points in Sunday's longer race.

The focus for all teams now shifts to recovery and setup for the full 23-lap Aragon Grand Prix on Sunday.
