Johann Zarco to Make Early Return to MotoGP at Aragon
Johann Zarco is set to return to MotoGP action earlier than expected at the Aragon round, subject to passing a medical examination

Johann Zarco will attempt to make an early return to MotoGP action at the upcoming Aragon round. The French rider has been absent from the sport since suffering serious knee ligament injuries in a crash at the Catalunya MotoGP in May. Initially, it was expected that Zarco would make his comeback at the Misano event in mid-September, but his recovery has progressed faster than anticipated.
Recovery and Rehabilitation
Zarco's recovery has been ongoing, and he has been gradually increasing his workload as part of his rehabilitation. He has been riding a supermoto and a Honda CBR1000RR to build up his intensity and endurance. According to an LCR statement, Zarco has made steady progress and has received clearance from his medical team to resume racing. However, he will still need to pass a mandatory medical assessment at the Aragon circuit before being allowed to compete.
Return to Racing
Zarco expressed his excitement about returning to racing, stating that he feels good enough to jump back on the MotoGP bike. He also mentioned that he has missed his team, racing, and the paddock, and is looking forward to being back in Aragon. Team Principal Lucio Cecchinello also welcomed Zarco's early return, saying that the team is happy to see his recovery progressing well and is looking forward to having him back.
Upcoming Season
Zarco is already confirmed to remain with LCR next season, but the identity of his 2027 team-mate is still to be confirmed. HRC has yet to decide whether current LCR rider Diogo Moreira or new rookie signing David Alonso will join Fabio Quartararo at the factory team for the start of the new 850cc era. Zarco will also need to serve a double long lap penalty for causing the Catalunya incident in his next grand prix.
LCR had called up former racer Cal Crutchlow for six stand-in appearances during Zarco's absence. With Zarco's return, the team will be back to full strength, and they will be looking to make a strong finish to the season. Zarco's early return is a positive sign for the team, and they will be hoping that he can quickly get back up to speed and start competing at the highest level again.
