Ducati's Gigi Dall'Igna says the 2026 MotoGP championship will be decided by mental strength and consistency, not outright speed.
Ducati general manager Gigi Dall'Igna believes the 2026 MotoGP title will be won by the rider who keeps the coolest head, not necessarily the fastest one. He made the comments to Sky Italia at MotorLand Aragon, with nine rounds potentially remaining in the season.
Dall'Igna, a key technical figure for the Borgo Panigale manufacturer, stressed the importance of consistency. "It will be important to score points and avoid mistakes," he said. The Ducati boss pointed to recent history, noting a championship can be won with fewer victories if a rider is constant and avoids scoring zeros. The Title Contenders
The logical contenders for the crown are the top three in the standings: Jorge Martín, Marc Márquez, and Marco Bezzecchi. They arrive at the Misano round separated by just 24 points. Martín leads the championship by 19 points from Márquez in second.
Marc Márquez claimed his fourth win of the season at MotorLand Aragon, a circuit he favors. That victory moved him up to second in the standings. He also has two zeros on his scorecard from crashes at Le Mans and Barcelona.
Marco Bezzecchi has shown great speed, matching Márquez's tally of four wins. He also leads the podium count with eight top-three finishes. However, a poor run of form saw him score only 13 points across four events, including two DNFs and an incident with a marshal at Brno.
Jorge Martín has only one win this season, at Le Mans. He has been on the podium six times. His strength has been scoring points in every round except Barcelona, collecting them consistently wherever he goes.

Jorge Martín may feel comfortable in such a scenario. He won the 2024 title after a season-long battle with Francesco Bagnaia, despite winning only three races to Bagnaia's eleven. The championship remains tight with potentially eight or nine rounds left to run.
