Nicolo Bulega won the French Round's second World Superbike race by over five seconds, extending his championship lead

Nicolo Bulega won the FIM Superbike World Championship Race Two on Sunday at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in France. Riding his Aruba.it Racing Ducati Panigale V4R, the championship leader took the 19-lap race by a commanding 5.458 seconds.

His factory Ducati teammate, Iker Lecuona, finished second. Yari Montella secured third place aboard his Barni Spark Racing Team Ducati.

Lights-to-Flag Victory

Bulega seized the lead from pole position at the first turn. He defended from Lecuona at the Adelaide Hairpin on the opening lap, a move he had failed to make in earlier weekend races. The Italian then began building a gap immediately. On lap four, Bulega set the race's fastest lap. That was seven-tenths quicker than Lecuona's pace at the time. From there, he controlled the race unchallenged to the finish. According to a series press release, this was the 46th WorldSBK victory of Bulega's career.

The Podium Battle

The fight for third was a fierce duel between Yari Montella and Alberto Surra. Surra, on his Motocorsa Racing Ducati, passed Montella for the provisional podium spot on lap one. Montella fought back on lap six, making a pass at Turn 5 to reclaim third position. Surra could not respond but held off a challenge from Alex Lowes until the Bimota rider crashed on lap 11. This left Lorenzo Baldassarri to chase Surra for fourth. Baldassarri passed his fellow independent Ducati rider on lap 14 to secure fourth place. Surra finished fifth, which the source notes was his best result in a full-length race this season.

Midfield Action and Incidents

A late crash reshuffled the order behind the top five. Alvaro Bautista passed Tommy Bridewell for sixth on lap 17. Bridewell then crashed at Turn 3 on the final lap, bringing out the red flags. With more than two-thirds of the race distance completed, officials did not restart it. That incident promoted American rider Garrett Gerloff to seventh on his Kawasaki.

The top ten was rounded out by Xavi Vierge in eighth, Axel Bassani ninth, and Remy Gardner tenth. Danilo Petrucci finished 12th on his BMW. Several riders failed to finish, including Andrea Locatelli, who crashed after contact with another rider. That incident is under investigation by race stewards.

Championship Standings

The victory extends Nicolo Bulega's substantial lead in the riders' championship. The results solidify the top three positions with four rounds remaining.
